Conference Objectives

Considering the dynamic shifts impacting biodiversity and wildlife, this conference endeavors to:

  • Establish a national database of Iraqi biological collections that contributes to the advancement of biodiversity conservation in the country.
  • Publish updated checklists of Iraqi species, including extinct, endangered, invasive, and alien species.
  • Follow up on the latest developments affecting biodiversity and wildlife conservation in order to identify the foundations necessary for achieving sustainable development.
  • Emphasize the pivotal role of the Natural History Research Center and Museum as a national reference in the identification and authentication of biological (faunal and floral) and geological specimens for various Iraqi scientific and research institutions.

About Our Center and Museum

The Iraq Natural History Research Center and Museum – University of Baghdad was established on May 2, 1946. It comprises four scientific departments:

  • Department of Entomology and Invertebrates
  • Department of Ichthyology
  • Department of Vertebrates
  • Department of Botany and Ecology

The INHM commit to conduct specialized research and studies in natural history and wildlife conservation. It plays a pivotal role in identifying and validating specimens submitted by various Iraqi and international scientific and research Organizations.
Since its establishment, the INHM center has committed to preserving biological and geological collections by monitoring and recording species, conducting field surveys of various environments, and displaying some of these collections in an engaging and educational manner for visitors and wildlife enthusiasts.

Furthermore, the INHM actively contributes to publishing research and studies related to biodiversity and geology through the publication of the specialized, peer-reviewed scientific journal (Bulletin of the Iraq Natural History Museum), the first issue of which was published in 1961 and has been indexed in the Scopus database since 2017. This journal was categorized into quartile Q3 based on their rank within their subject area; this was confirmed by the updated list issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Abstracts should be prepared in English only (not exceeding one page) and sent as follows:

  • Life Science Theme
  • Earth Science Theme

Research accepted for presentation at the conference. If researchers wish to publish, they must submit their research to the journal and write it according to the guidelines followed for publication in the (Bulletin of Iraq of Natural History Museum)

  • Participants are welcome to join the conference either through on-site presence or via online participation, according to their stated preference.
  • Following submission, researchers will be informed of preliminary acceptance within a period not exceeding 60 days.The papers that were accepted will be published within the regular issues of the
    Bulletin of the Iraq Natural History Museum in accordance with the journal’s instructions.
